About James D. Iams

Because Mr. Iams has been an avid sailor in Chesapeake Bay waters for many years, the bay and its tributaries, boats, watermen, and the waterfowl that inhabit the area often appear in his paintings. Work boats associated with the Chesapeake Bay, such as Skipjacks and ‘Drake Tail’ work boats, are among his favorite subjects. In addition to illustrated articles in national art magazines and regional quarterlies, his published work consists of a number of prints of his paintings, and two books. Bayside Impressions was published in 1983 by Tidewater Publishers, and recently Painting The Eastern Shore was published in 1999 by Johns Hopkins University Press. Most recently, his work apears in a new publication by Russell Jinishian, Bound For Blue Water.

A resident of Lutherville, Maryland, Mr. lams is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and holds graduate degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the Maryland Institute College of Art. Mr. lams is a life member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the American Society of Marine Artists, and is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society.
